Katie has been asking for the same astronomically expensive Negative Body Image Icon That Shall Not Be Named doll since they started running the commercials for it during the summer. I hate the damn things, but she's a little girl and little girls collect them so I have accomodated the requests in the past. She has a few, so I figured, what's the harm in shelling out the money for this one? So Ryan and I sneak out while she's in sunday school. We learn that this doll is one of two dolls that comes in a set. There's also apparently a DVD movie about the dolls, too. She has too many videos already, so we decide against the movie and buy one of the two dolls. This one will be from Santa. Everybody's happy. Typically, Katie watches her shows on the TiVo. I make her skip through the commercials but once in a while, Spongebob will be on regular TV and she'll tune in and inevitably see commercials. I tune out pretty much any and all advertising. But right after we had bought her the doll, I happened to be watching, too, when a commercial for that very same doll came on. Turns out, the accursed thing sings. I was so busy flinging stuff in the shopping cart to even notice that the doll sings when you press her tummy. If the doll had a more useful talent, like, say, picking her clothes up and jumping into her storage bin with her colleagues, I might feel better about this purchase. But now I just feel stupid. That's what I get, though. In another consumerist frenzy, I bought Zac a drum and a tambourine. I seem to enjoy headaches a lot. | ||||||
Comments Ahh, the #1 reason I was happy to find out Visa's a boy. (But don't get me started on violent video games, porn, and of course anything G-U-N related.) I hated That Doll too. In fact, my dog and I took turns pulling off their heads (my parents never bought Her, She was given to me by others). A singing one, though.. BLECHH. Hope Zac breaks her quickly.
