Y Tu Mama Tambien

Sorta gross, but oddly intriguing. Films about teenage boys, in my experience, can go one of two ways. You have the spacey, likeable teenage boy film, in which the protagonists are unthreatening and kind of nice but dumb á la Bill and Ted. More realistically, you have the type of film in which the boy is a nasty, burping, farting walking libido. Y Tu Mama Tambien is a film about the walking libido boy. A pair of them, in fact. At a wedding, they meet a beautiful woman who is married to the dorky cousin of one of the two boys. The woman seems completely grossed out by the two, but when she is forced to face several personal crises, she invites them on a wild road trip. The most interesting thing about this film is a tendency I've seen in several other foreign films, which is that the narrator reveals what happens to each and every character, even the fringe characters. What I think is supposed to be a shocking twist is actually spelled out pretty explicitly at the beginning of the film, so what happens as a result really comes as no surprise. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be so obvious or if the writing is lazy. It's definitely not for the faint of heart, though. Comments
