You Can Count on Me

There is not one sympathetic character in this film. Sammy Prescott (Laura Linney) is snooty and kind of a hypocrite; her brother Terry (Mark Ruffalo) is a con man; Sammy's boss---oops, can't tell you about Sammy's boss. The only character you can maybe get behind is Bob, the poor sap who wants to marry Sammy.
Sometimes a lack of likeable characters makes for an interesting film, but in this case, it kinda made me want to shout at the television. Here are a bunch of people doing really stupid things that get them nowhere. It's shot in upstate New York, though, and it's quite lovely up there. Comments
