Somehow, somewhere, somebody decided Georgia was no longer the peach state, but the empire state of the south. Must not have been in school that day.

Comments Hmm! I've never heard that before, either, but it seems to in fact be a fairly widely cited nickname. Says (of all places) a German site, "Georgia is the largest state east of the Mississippi; the state's large size and thriving industries have given it one of its nicknames, the Empire State of the South."
