I miss one of our local stations. It was previously called "The Breeze" and played light Hawaiian. Recently, they've changed formats. For a few weeks, they've been a pop station (branded simply "Bob"), specializing in stuff from the '80s some of which I haven't heard in years. Stuff like Sunday Girl by Blondie and South Central Rain by R.E.M. So it's been on my car radio, almost constantly... except for when Ryan drives. He likes NPR. But tonight, during a particularly slow segment, I changed it back to my station. Me: "I guess 'Bob' is pretty good after all." Ryan: "Well, yesterday I heard a deal-breaker. They played that dumb song on this station. You know, 'Now or never, live forever, blah blah blah...'" Me: "Oh, Bon Jovi." Ryan: "Yeah, so I decided they're not so cool." Me: "Eh." Ryan: "That song sucks. Name one cool person who likes that song." Me: "Someone who likes Bon Jovi might like that song." Ryan: "No, even people who like Bon Jovi should be ashamed of that song." Just then, Mmm Mmm Mmm by the Crash Test Dummies comes on. Ryan: "Hey! This is cool." Me: "C'mon. This has to cancel out the suckiness of Bon Jovi." |
